Dinesh Trivedi joins BJP
He was Trinamool Congress MP and had resigned in Parliament on February 12.
Former Union Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP who resigned in Parliament on February 12, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party today. He is expected to be at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on Sunday.
He joined the BJP in presence of the party’s national president JP Nadda. Nadda said that Trivedi was a good politician in the “wrong political party”. Trivedi said that he had always felt motivated to work for the people and would continue to do so with the BJP.
Trivedi had resigned dramatically during a Parliament session, saying he was unhappy with the way the Trinamool Congress is being run. He also said that the reasons for quitting the Trinamool Congress was “ethical”. While he did not name anyone, it is believed that he was miffed with Trinamool’s poll strategist Prashant Kishor, as he had said that the party was being run by corporate professionals.
At the time of resignation and thereafter, Trivedi did not say what his next course of action would be, but he had mentioned that he was on good terms with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The BJP’s leaders from West Bengal too had said that they would “welcome” him.
