The Bengal Story Bureau: Actor Kriti Kharbanda shared a deeply moving note on social media after watching director Imtiaz Ali’s latest film, Main Vaapas Aaunga. Expressing how the narrative touched her core, she stated that the film brought back cherished memories of her late grandparents and completely altered her perspective on the meaning of home.
A Tribute to Grandparents and Generation Sacrifices
Reflecting on the heavy emotions stirred by the film, Kharbanda revealed that the story reminded her intensely of both her “daaddu” and “naanu.” While she remembers them every day, she admitted that watching Main Vaapas Aaunga forced her to pause and contemplate the immense sacrifices made by preceding generations.
The actor noted that younger generations frequently take the land beneath their feet for granted. She pointed out that many people fail to realize how an ancestor might have abandoned their entire world just to build the secure life their descendants now enjoy.

The Changing Definition of Home
Directing her admiration toward filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Kharbanda highlighted his unique ability to connect with audiences. “Aapki filmein aksar ghar jaisi lagti hain. Iss baar ghar nahi mila. Iss baar… ghar ki yaad mil gayi (Your films usually feel like home. This time, I did not find home. This time… I found the memory of home),” she wrote.
She further explained how the cinematic piece expanded her understanding of nostalgia and belonging. “Shayad ghar sirf woh jagah nahi hoti jahan hum rehte hain. Kabhi kabhi ghar woh bhi hota hai jahan hum kabhi wapas nahi jaa paate (Perhaps home is not just the place where we live. Sometimes, home is also that place where we can never return),” she observed, capturing the bittersweet essence of the film.
Honouring the Common Man
Describing the lasting impact of Main Vaapas Aaunga, Kharbanda asserted that the depth of the project extends far past its physical runtime. She mentioned that certain stories do not simply conclude when the credits begin to roll, but instead stay with the audience long after they exit the cinema hall.

Mere daaddu aur Naanuu aur unn jaise kai logon ko hero banane ke liye (Thank you for making the common man a hero. For making my grandfathers and many others like them heroes),” she expressed, finishing her post with a heart emoji.
