The Bengal Story Bureau: Badminton legend Prakash Padukone has praised his son-in-law Ranveer Singh’s performance in the blockbuster film Dhurandhar, while admitting that his family found the action thriller a little too violent. Speaking about the massive box office success of the movie, the former sports icon noted that the positive reception from the general audience ultimately mattered the most.

During a recent interview, Padukone shared his honest assessment of the spy franchise. He stated that it was a great and very well-made film, highlighting the strong acting performances from the entire cast.

“We felt there was a little bit too much violence, but the majority of people liked it, so I think that’s more important,” Padukone told The Indian Express. His comments come as the film’s extreme action sequences continue to spark conversations among critics and viewers.

Bonding Over Sports and Cinema

Padukone also offered a rare glimpse into his personal equation with the actor. He revealed that the two families are extremely close and make it a point to go on vacation together at least once a year.

The former badminton champion mentioned that their conversations frequently revolve around their mutual interests. He noted that the actor is passionate about sports, while he himself is curious about the commercial mechanics of the film industry.

“He keeps talking to me about sports, and I keep asking him about movies as I want to learn about the business,” Padukone said. He added that they enjoy watching football and cricket together, pointing out the friendly sporting rivalry at home since the actor supports Arsenal while Padukone’s younger daughter, Anisha, is a Manchester United fan.

Grandparenthood and Normalcy

Beyond his equation with the actor, Padukone spoke fondly about his new role as a grandfather to Dua, the first child of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. He shared that watching her grow has been a transformative experience, especially since his extensive travel schedule during his playing days often kept him away from his own daughters’ early milestones.

To ensure his granddaughter experiences a grounded upbringing despite her parents’ immense celebrity status, Padukone and his wife Ujjala regularly take her on ordinary outings when she visits Bengaluru. He mentioned taking the young child on local Metro trains and auto-rickshaws, aiming to give her a taste of normal life away from the glare of constant media attention.
