“Cannot Ignore Your Child”: Pallavi on Prosenjit Chatterjee’s Daughter Prerona
Pallavi Chatterjee recently discussed her brother Prosenjit Chatterjee's relationship with his daughter Prerona.

The Bengal Story Bureau: Bengali actor Pallavi Chatterjee has publicly addressed the estranged relationship between her brother, Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, and his daughter Prerona. In a recent interview, Pallavi expressed her dismay over the distance between the father and daughter, stating that a child should never suffer due to differences between parents.

The revelation came during Pallavi’s interaction with entertainment journalist Vicky Lalwani, where she discussed the complex dynamics of Prosenjit’s three marriages. While the superstar maintains a close bond with Trishanjit, his son from his current marriage to actor Arpita Chatterjee, he has completely lost touch with Prerona, his daughter from his second marriage to Aparna Guhathakurta.

The Separation and Distance

Prosenjit Chatterjee’s personal life has frequently drawn public attention over the decades. Pallavi revealed that family tensions existed even during his first marriage to actor Debashree Roy. At the time, Prosenjit was experiencing a severe rift with his mother, Ratna Chatterjee. Consequently, neither his mother nor Pallavi were informed about the wedding or invited to the ceremony. Pallavi noted that while her mother was deeply hurt by the exclusion, the snub did not significantly bother her personally.

Following his divorce from Debashree Roy, the actor married Aparna Guhathakurta. Pallavi shared that she developed a warm equation with Aparna, which was a sharp contrast to her distant dynamic with Debashree, and she grew deeply fond of her niece Prerona.

However, the second marriage also eventually ended in divorce, leading to a complete breakdown in communication between Prosenjit and his daughter. When Pallavi once questioned her brother about the growing distance, Prosenjit allegedly told her that his former wife did not want him to maintain contact with Prerona.

“What is the Child’s Fault?”

Despite the actor’s explanation, Pallavi maintained a firm stance on a parent’s fundamental responsibility. She noted that while people have the right to seek happiness and remarry, abandoning a child remains unacceptable.

“Many people marry more than once, and I have no objection to that. Personally, I feel people should do what makes them happy,” Pallavi said during the interview. “But a child comes into this world because of your choices. You cannot ignore your own child. You might have differences with your life partner, but what is the child’s fault?”

Prerona’s Life Today

According to Pallavi, Prerona is now a mature young woman pursuing a degree in law in London. The aunt described her niece as a highly sensitive individual who has learned to navigate life without her father’s presence.

During Prerona’s childhood, well-wishers would often urge Prosenjit to attend her birthday parties, but the actor never managed to make an appearance. Over time, Prerona accepted the reality of the situation and closed that chapter of her life, Pallavi added.
