The Bengal Story Bureau: Rajkummar Rao has quietly established a unique benchmark in Hindi cinema by playing seven real-life personalities on screen. With his upcoming biographical films based on cricket legend Sourav Ganguly and public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, the actor continues to cement his position as Bollywood’s preferred choice for true stories.
A Journey Rooted in Real Stories
The actor’s association with real-life portrayals began with his National Award-winning performance as lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi in the film Shahid. He followed this critical success by playing freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose in the web series Bose: Dead/Alive.
Rao later took on darker and more complex material with Omerta, where he portrayed militant Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Earlier this year, he received widespread appreciation for his lead role in Srikanth, a film based on the life of visually impaired entrepreneur Srikanth Bolla.

Upcoming Rajkummar Rao Biopics
Rao is currently preparing for two major biographical projects. He will play former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in a film titled Dada. He is also set to portray the renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam in Prahaar.
In addition to these confirmed projects, Rao will star in Raftaar. While not officially billed as a biographical film, the project draws heavy inspiration from the controversial rise and fall of the Indian education tech startup BYJU’S.
Industry observers note that Rao did not deliberately plan to become a specialist in this genre. His filmography has naturally evolved to include lawyers, freedom fighters, athletes and entrepreneurs, proving his versatility across varied roles.
