Here’s the full list of Trinamool candidates for Kolkata civic polls
Several sitting MLAs have been fielded as candidates.
Trinamool Congress has released its list of candidates for the 144-ward Kolkata Municipal Corporation election scheduled on December 19. As many as 39 sitting ward councillors out of the total 126 ward coordinators (councillors) who won last time, were dropped.
Trinamool came out with the list after a three-hour-long session at chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s house on Friday, where political strategist Prashant Kishor and Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee were present. Of the 144 Trinamool candidates, 64 are women, 19 from scheduled caste and 23 from minority communities including two Christians.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s sister-in-law Kajori Banerjee is contesting as councillor, and so are senior state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya’s son and late Subrata Mukherjee’s sister. Six sitting MLAs, including chairman of the board of administrators of KMC, Firhad Hakim, have been fielded as candidates. Party MP Mala Roy, MLAs Atin Ghosh, Debashis Kumar, Debabrata Majumder, Paresh Pal and Ratna Chatterjee will also contest the elections.

Names in two seats will be announced later. Kolkata civic polls elections along with 112 other municipalities and municipal corporations, were due in April-May 2020. But the polls were postponed due to the COVID pandemic. These civic bodies are now being run by state-appointed boards of administrators. In the last elections of 2015, Trinamool had won 126 seats.
