In pictures: Activists protest outside SC on clean chit to CJI Ranjan Gogoi in sexual harassment case
A protest demonstration was held this morning in New Delhi’s Bhagwan Das Road opposite Gate C of the Supreme Court of India. Activists and ordinary citizens not directly associated with women’s rights organisations came together with placards and banners demanding justice for the complainant who alleged that she was sexually harassed by Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi.
Today’s demonstration followed a three-judge panel headed by Justice SA Bobde concluding that it had found no substance in the sexual harassment allegations by the former apex court employee against the CJI.
The protesters included many women lawyers, who openly questioned the in-house probe conducted into the allegations. Section 144 CrPC was imposed in the area and Delhi Police authorities detained some protesters. They were released later. Poonam Kaushik, general secretary of Pragatisheel Mahila Sangathan said that though it was a peaceful protest, police dragged her and some others from the area. Here are some photographs taken by Rituparna Chatterjee who was part of the protest demonstration.
