Jadavpur University students continued with their hunger strike for the third day — for the past 66 hours — over the scrapping of admission test, and one of the students — Somashree Choudhury from the International Relations department, was taken to hospital at around 4.30 pm today.
Choudhury, — chairperson of Jadavpur University Arts Faculty Students’ Union (AFSU) — is currently undergoing treatment at the emergency department of the hospital and has been kept under observation.
According to other students, Somasree was not feeling well since this morning and at around 4 pm she started vomiting and her body temperature dropped significantly.
Earlier today, Vice Chancellor Suranjan Das appealed to the students to call off their hunger strike. He said he was waiting for the Governor’s message and would pass it on to the students as soon as it arrived. There are talks of calling an emergency Executive Committee meeting.
There has been a raging controversy at Jadavpur University as the administration decided to scrap entrance examination for the Arts faculty undergraduate studies.
