Kolkata Metro may resume services on Sept 13 for NEET candidates, regular services likely from Sept 14 with restrictions

The West Bengal government and Kolkata Metro Railway authorities had a meeting at the state administrative headquarters, Nabanna, on Thursday regarding resuming of Metro services that have remained suspended for months now owing to the outbreak of COVID-19.

So far, the dates have not been finalised, but tentative dates are being discussed. It is learnt that the Bengal government has requested the Metro authorities to run trains on September 13 when the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is scheduled and it would greatly benefit candidates. Resuming regular services may take place from the following day, but no final date was arrived at. Another meeting is scheduled at the Metro Railway office in Kolkata on Friday.

Several precautions will be taken once services resume, and that includes partial running of trains at longer intervals. Security personnel would be deployed to ensure that adequate social distancing is maintained as well as other measures are being adopted by commuters. For now, no tokens will be issued, and only smart cards will be allowed.
