Temperature in Kolkata and large parts of south Bengal may drop by 4°C by Thursday, officials at Alipore weather office said today. With the cold north-westerly blowing into the state from Wednesday morning, temperature will keep dropping steadily till it reaches 13-15°C over the weekend.
The minimum temperature in Kolkata may drop below 14°C on Thursday. Today’s minimum temperature will remain around 16-17°C with the maximum being around 25°C.
Kolkata and other parts of the state will experience a steady flow of cold wind at 10-15km/hr.The wind is supposed to assist in the onset of winter in the state which was delayed this year by repeated formation of western disturbances. But, with the western disturbances no more, the cold wind will now flow unhindered in the state thus bringing in the much awaited winter into this part of the country.
Parts of north Bengal including Dooars and Terai is likely to experience a temperature of 9-10°C in the next two to three days. Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri may experience fog in the early morning over the next few days. The visibility in these places will come down to 200-500 metres as a result of the fog, officials said.
