Mamata attacks BJP in south Bengal area where the party had performed well in rural polls

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee today attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying they would be wiped out from the state the way the CPI(M) had been. She said this at a public meeting at Keshiary in the West Midnapore district – an area where the BJP has performed well in the panchayat polls.

In fact, on Sunday, the BJP held a protest rally alleging that the Trinamool Congress was preventing them from forming boards even where they had won.

Banerjee is on a five-day trip to East and West Midnapore districts, in which she will hold administrative meetings as well as address public meetings. For her, these administrative and public meetings are a way to review performances of officials and party men ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The administrative meetings are telecast live on television usually and no one wants to make a slip for fear of being pulled up publicly. It is also Banerjee’s way of telling people the things she had ordered to be done, files that were cleared and what she expects to be done. She also solves problems in case some project is stuck.

At the Keshiary meeting today, Banerjee also said that the BJP could not harm her party here no matter how much they threatened to do so. She said those once part of the CPI(M) were now with the BJP, and they neither respected Mahatma Gandhi nor Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. She said the BJP was using religion for their political agenda.

Banerjee has started touring the districts to review performance of her party workers too. She gave out a strong message against corruption. She said that her party would not be responsible for an individual’s corrupt practices.

The Bengal CM will also hold an administrative review meeting at Midnapore town on December 4. The day after that, she will visit East Midnapore district to hold a public meeting at Bajkul. The following day, December 6, she will hold a meeting at East Midnapore’s Digha.

Last week, the CM was on a five-day trip to Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram and East Burdwan.
