West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said that an egotistical person like Narendra Modi cannot be a Prime Minister.
The Bengal CM lambasted PM Modi for being egotistical and not caring about his wife. She was speaking at a public meeting in East Midnapore’s Nimtouri today. “Nijer bou er porichoy ditey lojja pay,” she said of the PM. (He is ashamed to talk about his wife)
“I don’t usually talk about these things. But the kind of things he keeps saying during his visits here…,” clarified Banerjee. “How can a person who is so egotistical (that he doesn’t bother to find out about his wife’s wellbeing), run the country?” she asked.
Banerjee was aware of the women voters sitting in the front few rows, and how it would touch them. She said she was going through the nomination papers the Prime Minister had submitted, and most information on his wife were kept blank, as he had said he did not know about it. “Kokhono jiggesh korechho manush ta ke, tumi ki koro, ki khao, kothay thako? Eto ego kisher?” she asked. (Have you ever asked the poor soul what you do, what you eat, where you stay? Why does he have such a big ego?)

Banerjee said that such a person was unfit to be Prime Minister, as it takes conscience, kindness and brains to be a leader, and all of it must be used judiciously.
“If a Prime Minister lies, what will people learn from you?” she asked.
Banerjee has been doing back-to-back public meetings all over the state. She has planned a hundred meetings in connection with the Lok Sabha polls in 42 constituencies of the state where election is being held in seven phases. Phase I started on April 11 and will continue till May 19, and results will be declared on May 23.
