Mamata Banerjee calls the ED’s questioning of Robert Vadra an attempt to attack Opposition unity

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that the questioning of Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra by the Enforcement Directorate is an “attempt to stop the opposition parties to unite.”

Businessman Robert Vadra, brother-in-law of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, was questioned for almost five hours by the ED in connection with a money laundering case against him involving alleged dubious financial dealings. Banerjee , speaking in support of Vadra, has termed this questioning an attempt by the BJP to disrupt the union of the Opposition political parties. She said that is why they are serving ED notices to everyone. But she was also confident that “all opposition parties are united.”

Last month’s mega anti-BJP rally organised by the Trinamool Congress chief had brought leaders from at least 20 opposition parties to Kolkata. They supported Banerjee in her protest against the alleged immoral policies of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Vadra has been granted interim bail by the Patiala Court House till February 16. The ED questioned him last evening for more than five hours.
