West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee continued with her protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), with a rally in Purulia district on Monday.
The rally route of three and a half kilometres is meant to reach out to people along the way, from the area adjoining Victoria School till Purulia town taxi stand. This is Banerjee’s first visit to Purulia after the Lok Sabha elections in which her party Trinamool Congress faced a tough challenge from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and lost considerable support of the people.
On Sunday, Banerjee held an administrative meeting in Purulia and expressed her disappointment about pending work in various developmental projects. She directed the local administration to speed up work on the projects and asked her party leaders to work out strategies to combat the BJP in the district.
