Mamata Banerjee heads to UP, will campaign for Akhilesh Yadav in coming Assembly polls
"Want to give Akhilesh my moral support", said Banerjee.
West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday left Kolkata to reach Uttar Pradesh, where he will campaign for Samjwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav. “I want Akhilesh to win, and we are supporting him,” she said at the Kolkata airport before taking her flight to UP.
She said that the Trinamool is not contesting from any seat in Uttar Pradesh for the coming Assembly elections as the party does not want to split the Opposition votes that may benefit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “We want the BJP to lose and the Samajwadi Party (SP) has the organisational set-up in UP. We want to give him the moral support and I want to support Akhilesh’s fight against the BJP,” she said.
Earlier, Samajwadi Party leader Kiranmay Nanda had held a meeting with Banerjee in Kolkata and planned her UP visit. She will be in Varanasi among other places.
