Mamata Banerjee on Yaas: “why is Centre offering Rs 600 crore to Odisha & Andhra while Bengal is getting only Rs 400 crore”
Earlier today, Banerjee held a virtual meeting with Amit Shah
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday questioned why West Bengal government will get Rs 400 crore for handling the crisis owing to cyclone Yaas, while the state governments of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh will get Rs 600 crore each.
“West Bengal is a much bigger state than Odisha and the population of Bengal is also higher,” she said. Banerjee said this in Kolkata’s Nabanna today after holding a virtual meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in which chief ministers of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh were also present.
Banerjee said that the Bengal government had not received sufficient funds from the Centre to handle the crisis following Amphan last year, and this year too, “Bengal is being deprived by the Centre as usual”, she said.
