Mamata Banerjee performs with folk artistes on Independence Day

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday was present at the Independence Day function of the state on Kolkata’s Red Road. She danced with folk artistes during a performance of Jhargram along with minister of her cabinet, Birbaha Hansda.

The Bengal CM hoisted the national flag, honoured senior officers who received medals for their outstanding performances and then she watched tableaux and performances by various police and state government departments, along with performances by schoolchildren and folk artistes from various parts of the state.

Earlier, on Twitter, Banerjee, paying homage to the people who fought for India’s Independence, said that Indians must uphold the dignity of the country’s democratic values. She said Indians should preserve the sacred legacy of their forefathers who got the Independence.
