Mamata Banerjee & PM Modi’s meetings lined up in Jangalmahal today
As Bengal elections draw near, a string of rallies in Jangalmahal
Who will be a bigger crowd-puller? Who will draw more votes? It’s Mamata Banerjee versus Narendra Modi in Jangalmahal on Thursday. Both are star campaigners of their respective parties.
West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is fighting hard to woo the people of Jangalmahal, which goes to polls in the first and second phase of elections on March 27 and April 1. For her it is a tougher battle as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made considerable inroads in the area in the last Lok Sabha elections of 2019.
The Trinamool Congress chief is set to address three rallies in Kalaikunda, Garbeta and Keshiary, all in West Midnapore on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too will be in Jangalmahal today – addressing a rally in Purulia. In a week’s time he is set to address four rallies in this area. The increasing presence of the Prime Minister is indication enough that the BJP wants to continue to get its support in the region.
On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee had criticised Modi for not providing her government with the number of COVID-19 vaccines she had asked for from the Centre. It would be interesting to see if PM Modi comments on Banerjee’s allegations. The Bengal CM also had said in her rally on the precious day that BJP is bringing in national leaders in an effort to counter her, as they have no local leaders to address people.
After Thursday, Modi is expected to address rallies in Bankura on Saturday, Kharagpur on Sunday and in Contai on Wednesday.
Apart from PM Modi, the BJP also has Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s meetings in Moyna and Khejuri. BJP’s other leaders are expected to be with PM Modi at the Purulia rally.
