Mamata Banerjee wants observers in all civic bodies to check work progress
Observers will conduct independent surveys.
Ahead of civic elections that are due in the months ahead, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that observers will be appointed for all civic bodies to survey on progress of civic work across the state.
Banerjee – at an administrative meeting of North 24 Parganas district – asked urban development secretary Khalil Ahmed to appoint observers to do independent surveys and report to the government where work was done and where adequate progress is lacking. “I want to know where people are facing difficulties due to lack of civic amenities,” Banerjee said. She said that observers must be engaged for all 125 municipalities, apart from municipal corporations.
“Good work will be rewarded. But those who are not working have reason to be worried,” she said.
