MJ Akbar, Tarun Tejpal in Editor’s Guild of India member list

Former Union minister MJ Akbar and former editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine Tarun Tejpal – both accused of sexual misconduct by their female colleagues – are part of an updated list of members of the Editor’s Guild of India. The list also has the name of Gautam Adhikari, who has also been accused of sexual harassment, it was reported by the ANI.

There were objections among several members of the guild that these names should not be part of the list.

MJ Akbar has been accused of sexual misconduct by at least 20 women. The Union minister stepped down from his ministerial post last month and has filed a criminal defamation case against one of the women. Tejpal was accused of rape by a junior colleague in 2013.

Earlier, the Editor’s Guild had asked Akbar to withdraw the defamation case. The Guild has also issued a statement to show solidarity with women journalists who have made the allegations.
