The Alipore Meteorological department predicts rainfall across Bengal from Wednesday to Saturday. Rainfall will be accompanied by thunderstorms. There was hailstorm and rains in Kolkata and outskirts on Tuesday evening, and there will be more rainfall throughout the week.
Rains will continue and may even grow stronger from Wednesday. There will be rains in both north and south Bengal, chiefly in Murshidabad, Birbhum, East and West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
Almost all of the state is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall on Thursday. Thursday onwards, there will be several spells of rain. Temperature on these days will remain between 21-30°C and the sky will remain partly cloudy on Sunday.
The current weather conditions are due to the combined effect of a cyclonic circulation over the Gangetic West Bengal and an anti-cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, officials said.
