Opinion poll indicates Trinamool to be back in power in Bengal, BJP increases seats

An opinion poll telecast on Bengali news channel ABP Ananda has indicated that Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress will be back in power in West Bengal for the third time, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will turn into a strong opposition. According to the ABP Ananda opinion poll, the ruling Trinamool Congress will get lesser number of seats than the 2016 Assembly elections, while the BJP will get a huge increase in the number of seats than the last state elections.
According to the opinion poll, Trinamool Congress will get 154 to 162 seats while the BJP will get 98 to 106 seats. The Congress-Left parties alliance is likely to get between 26 to 34 seats and 2-6 seats will be won by “Others”. In 2016, Trinamool Congress had won 211 seats, while the BJP had won just three seats.
In terms of percentage, the opinion poll has said that the Trinamool is likely to get 43 per cent, the BJP 37.5 per cent and the Congress-Left alliance 11.8 per cent votes.
The survey – conducted by C-Voter-ABP Ananda, was telecast on the channel on Monday evening. The survey was conducted over 294 Assembly constituencies over 18,000 people between January 6 and 11, the channel authorities said.
