Owner finds lost buffalos through Facebook post in Bengal’s Nadia district

A livestock owner in West Bengal’s Nadia district was able to track down five lost buffalos in a rather unusual way. He found the pictures of his buffalos on a Facebook post and went on to claim them from the police station where they had been kept.

Krishna Ghosh, a livestock owner from Gournagar in the Nabadwip area of Nadia district, had lost five buffalos from the area around his house last week. The cost of the buffalos is estimated at approximately Rs 4 lakh. Ghosh got around 30-35 litres of milk from each of the buffalos, and he was in a state of shock when he could not track them anywhere. He looked around in his neighbourhood and beyond, but could not find them. Around Sunday evening, he saw photographs of his buffalos on Facebook.

According to a report in the newspaper Bartaman, the Purbasthali police station inspector in charge Rakesh Mishra said that the buffalos had taken shelter in a house in an adjoining village.

The buffalos were frightened by thunderstorm and heavy rainfall, and ran quite a distance from the open area where they were grazing. Eventually, they took shelter outside the house of Asit Das.

Around 8 pm, Das realised that five buffalos had taken shelter in the courtyard of his house. He tried to drive them away, but the animals were too scared to go outside. Das then called his neighbours and together they decided to keep the animals tied so they wouldn’t go astray. In the morning, he and some other neighbours clicked photographs of the buffalos and posted them on Facebook. But no one came to claim them for several hours. Around Sunday evening, Das took the buffalos to the police station.

On Sunday morning, Krishna Ghosh, on seeing photographs of the buffalos, got in touch with those who had posted them on Facebook and was directed to the local police station.
