The Bengal Story Bureau: KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress has accused the Suvendu Adhikari led BJP government of political vendetta after the long-serving personal security officers of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were abruptly removed on Wednesday night. With Mamata Banerjee security removed late at night, Trinamool leaders termed the action a calculated move to isolate the party supremo, who has refused to accept the replacement guards sent by the state police.
Mamata Banerjee Security Shakeup at Kalighat
The controversy erupted around 9.30 pm when the security personnel, who had guarded Banerjee for nearly two decades, were directed to leave her Harish Chatterjee Street residence. Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, who reached the spot, parked his vehicle to block the entrance and posted a video on social media confirming that the former chief minister was inside without her usual security cover.
According to administrative sources, the five withdrawn guards were originally Railway Protection Force personnel who had been absorbed into the state police system. They were instructed to return to their parent units. The Kolkata Police immediately dispatched three replacement guards, but Banerjee declined the new deployment, citing a lack of confidence in the assigned personnel.

Vendetta Allegations Against Chief Minister
The Trinamool Congress launched a sharp attack against Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, claiming the decision was driven by insecurity and malice. The party’s official communication channels stated that removing a former chief minister’s trusted security detail was not an administrative routine but an attempt to humiliate and put her at risk.
Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee defended the decision to reject the new detail. He stated that personal security officers operate purely on mutual confidence, and taking away guards who have served her for 20 years reflects a vindictive attitude from the current administration.
Questions Over Protocol and Parity
Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra also criticised the move, highlighting that Banerjee is a three-term former chief minister and seven-term parliamentarian. Moitra contrasted the situation with the heavy security cover provided to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at public expense, questioning why the state government would deliberately humiliate a senior political figure.
