Poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Monday predicted the outcome of the 2021 Assembly election in West Bengal, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will struggle to cross “double digits” in the state.
His Twitter post read, “For all the hype AMPLIFIED by a section of supportive media, in reality BJP will struggle to CROSS DOUBLE DIGITS in #WestBengal. PSL Please save this tweet and if BJP does any better I must quit this space!”
There are 294 Assembly seats, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the BJP in Bengal to target winning 200 seats. The BJP reacted sharply, with senior leader Kailash Vijayvargiya stating, “With the ongoing BJP tsunami in Bengal, after forming the government we will see the country lose a poll strategist”.
At least 50 big and small leaders from the Trinamool, Congress and Left parties joined the BJP at a rally in Midnapore on Saturday in presence of Amit Shah, including Subhendu Adhikary, who is being seen as a top leader in the BJP.
Some of the others who joined the BJP include Banashree Maiti, Trinamool MLA from Contai North, Tapasi Mondal, Haldia MLA from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Ashok Dinda, Tamluk MLA from Communist Party of India, Sudip Mukhopadhyay, Congress MLA from Purulia, Biswajit Kundu, Trinamool MLA from Kalna, Saikat Panja, Trinamool MLA from Manteswar, Shilbhadra Dutta, Trinamool MLA from Barrackpore, among others.
