Saayoni Ghosh & Manoj Tiwary to be Trinamool candidates; both tweet on Hathras incident

Actor Saayoni Ghosh and former India national cricketer Manoj Tiwary are both slated to be candidates for the Trinamool Congress for the coming Assembly elections. The party is likely to announce its first round of candidates’ list in a day or two, possibly on Wednesday. They both joined Trinamool Congress at a recent rally addressed by Mamata Banerjee in Hooghly district.

On Tuesday – both Saayoni Ghosh and Manoj Tiwary – took to Twitter to attack the Yogi Adiyanath government of Uttar Pradesh, where crimes against women are being regularly reported. On Tuesday, it was reported that a man who was jailed in 2018 in a sex assault case and was out on bail, allegedly shot dead the survivor’s father in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district.

The Hathras Police said on social media that the accused, Gaurav Sharma, was jailed for a month in 2018 after a molestation case was filed against him by the woman’s father. He was granted bail by a local court. Videos shot by local journalists showed the survivor crying outside a police station and demanding justice.

Yogi Adityanath is in West Bengal today, and spoke at a public meeting in Malda about crimes against women in Bengal and that the state administration had been unable to control it.

Ghosh and Tiwary uploaded the video of the girl in Hathras and attacked Adiytanath especially about Hathras. This is what Tiwary wrote on Twitter in Bengali: “Another shameful incident, it’s Hathras again and the same @myogiadityanath ruled Uttar Pradesh. The person who can’t get his own house in order is campaigning in West Bengal. Will he answer how the father of an assaulted girl was shot 12 times and killed by the accused? #BJPHataoBetiBachao”

Saayoni Ghosh in her tweet wrote, “Not a good morning…”, adding “#thinkTwice”.
