Skeletal bus services will start in some parts of Kolkata and adjoining areas from Wednesday, it was notified by the state transport department. According to transport minister Suvendu Adhikari, the buses will run for healthcare workers, migrant workers and others who are returning from other states. However, only 20 persons will be allowed to board the buses at a time.
App based cabs will also run in Kolkata metropolitan area and areas under the jurisdiction of Bidhannagar Police, Barrackpore Police and Howrah Police commissionerates. The cabs won’t be allowed to enter the containment zones however. Only two persons will be allowed in the back seat and no one will be allowed to sit by the side of the driver.
The cabs will be run for healthcare employees who are providing emergency services for fighting Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in both government and private sectors. Patients who need urgent treatment, or health services like chemotherapy, radiation and dialysis among others will be able to avail the cabs. The patient can be accompanied by one person at the most in the cab. The driver and the riders will be separated by a movable transparent sheet.
Other essential service providers as notified in relevant government orders can also avail the cab services.
Passes for the cabs will be available online. The riders should also carry original documents while travelling. Particulars of the riders should be made available by the app cab companies if such situations arise.
The driver should provide hand sanitizer to each passenger before the ride. The driver and the passengers should wear masks. The driver should also wear gloves and face shield in addition.
