No new Congress president has been chosen by the party after Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post and refused to reconsider his decision despite requests from senior leaders from different parts of the country. Following Rahul Gandhi, several other Congress leaders in key positions – Jyotiraditya Scindia and Milind Deora – resigned. Mitra too followed their steps – taking responsibility for the party’s poor show in West Bengal in the Lok Sabha polls, where the Congress won only two seats. He however, told reporters that he was willing to take up any other responsibility assigned by the party.
