Soumitra Chatterjee’s condition not improving, say doctors

The health condition of noted actor Soumitra Chatterjee is not improving, said doctors treating him at a private nursing home in central Kolkata. The actor was admitted to the nursing home on October 6 after he tested positive for COVID-19.

His condition was stated to be very critical. The 85-year-old actor is not conscious and in fact, his consciousness level has dipped, it was said. The actor was initially fine as he had reported of mild fever for a few days before he tested positive for coronavirus. However, his condition deteriorated within a few days due to his age and several ailments from which he was suffering. But he recovered from the critical state and doctors said he was improving. But there have been several complications since and his condition has not been improving for the past few days, said doctors.

His consciousness has been down compared to what it was 72 hours ago and test reports have indicated that the COVID encephalopathy is progressing, said doctors. Encephalopathy is a term used to describe what affects the function of the brain.
