A pool car carrying fifteen school children fell into a narrow canal in Chinsurah of Hooghly district on Friday.
Three children were seriously injured and initially taken to Imambara Sadar Hospital in the district. Due to the fall into the canal, dirty and toxic water had entered their system, making their health condition all the more vulnerable. They were later taken to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
The children had to be rushed to SSKM and police created a green corridor on an emergency basis so that the three children could be shifted to SSKM Hospital. They were taken to the trauma care centre of SSKM Hospital within an hour.
Police said that the pool car was speeding as they were running late for school. Another vehicle was headed towards it from the opposite direction, and the pool car, in order to prevent a head-on collision, moved towards the canal. A probe is under way, police said.
