Schoolchildren in Darjeeling to get bags and raincoats from govt, says Mamata Banerjee

School children in Darjeeling will get bags and raincoats as part of a state government scheme, chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced in Darjeeling today.

Speaking at a programme, she said that children in the state had benefited from getting bicycles, and it helped them reach school comfortably. But bicycles wouldn’t be of much use in Darjeeling as it is a hilly area. And therefore the idea of giving the schoolchildren bags and raincoats in the district, she said. Approximately 20,000 children will be brought under the scheme.
