Supreme Court refuses to entertain plea seeking monitoring in Saradha chit fun scam

The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a plea that was filed by some investors who sought a court-monitored probe into the Saradha chit fun scam.

The multi-crore rupee ponzi scheme run by the Saradha group collapsed and thousands were left cheated, with their money siphoned off. The West Bengal government had started the probe but it was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

CBI is currently in a series of meetings with Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in Shillong in connection with the investigation. The central investigating agency has alleged that Kumar – who was investigating the case when the scam came into light – has tampered with proof and refused to cooperate in the case.

The apex court has said earlier that Kumar cannot be arrested and he was asked to cooperate with the CBI in the probe.
