Suvendu Adhikari chosen Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly

He is the BJP MLA from Nandigram

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Suvendu Adhikari has been elected as the Leader of Opposition of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

Suvendu Adhikari, a former Trinamool Congress minister, is now a BJP MLA from Nandigram constituency. In the recently concluded 2021 Assembly polls, he beat Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram by less than 2,000 votes.

Another former Trinamool leader now with the BJP — Mukul Roy — was not chosen as the Leader of Opposition due to age and party leaders said that Adhikari, much younger than him, is more fit for the position. In the run-up to the Assembly election, Adhikari had led an aggressive attack on Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress.
