Suvendu Adhikari’s complaint against Mamata Banerjee: turns out that the case involves someone else

Adhikari had written to the EC to reject Mamata Banerjee's nomination.

It’s almost a case of “mistaken identity”. On Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari, who is contesting against West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, filed an objection with the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking rejection of Banerjee’s nomination. He wrote a letter to the returning officer of Nandigram constituency in East Midnapore (from where they are contesting) mentioning that Banerjee had suppressed criminal proceedings against her, including a CBI case. Banerjee had filed her nomination in Haldia on March 10.

A CBI official however, said that the Mamata Banerjee named in the case is a different person and not the chief minister of West Bengal.

“…We humbly pray that the nomination of the candidate Mamata Banerjee be forthwith rejected,” Adhikari had written in his letter to the returning officer of Nandigram assembly constituency on Monday. He also alleged that at least five cases are pending against her in various police stations of Assam.

“It is shameful. The BJP is trying to malign the chief minister and casting aspersions against her by linking her to a case in which another person has been named. This is malicious propaganda,” said Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.
