Suvendu Adhikari’s former bodyguard’s alleged suicide: wife files complaint after 2 years

Says she was "afraid" to speak for so long.

Nearly two and a half years after his death by alleged suicide, wife of the bodyguard of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari lodged a complaint with Contai police station on Wednesday evening, demanding probe into her husband’s “mysterious” death. Suparna Chakraborty, wife of Subhabrata Chakraborty (who was in charge of Adhikari’s security) has filed a complaint with the West Bengal Police.

On Friday, Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh tweeted the complaint report and tagged BJP state chief Dilip Ghosh to ask whether the party and its leaders were aware of the matter and knew the complainant. Suparna Chakraborty has made several allegations in her complaint about the “mystery” around her husband’s death. She has demanded a probe to find out what’s behind the “mystery”. An FIR has been lodged already.

Subhabrata Chakraborty, a jawan of West Bengal Armed Force was part of Adhikari’s security arrangement for nearly seven years. On September 13, 2018, he was found injured in the police barrack at around 11 am. He had a bullet injury in the head. He was in Contai Hospital throughout the day, and was taken to a Kolkata hospital later in the night. He passed away the following day.

His wife, a resident of Mahishadal in East Midnapore has now lodged a complaint to conduct a probe, as she wrote that she has never got the answers to her husband’s death “despite being” a bodyguard of Suvendu Adhikari. She has also inquired about the “delay” in shifting him to a Kolkata hospital. She has written in her complaint that she was quiet for so long as Adhikari is a “powerful” leader in the district and she was afraid to speak out against him. She has also mentioned in her complaint the role of some leaders considered “close” to Adhikari.
