NEW DELHI: The Bengal Story Bureau: Tata Motors has upgraded its popular entry-level hatchback, the 2026 Tata Tiago, introducing segment-first paddle shifters on its compressed natural gas (CNG) automatic variant. Alongside the mechanical updates, the automaker has heavily revised the exterior styling and loaded the cabin with premium technology previously reserved for more expensive segments.
The updated hatchback aims to consolidate Tata Motors’ position in the budget segment by offering a blend of low running costs and premium features.
Sharper Exterior and Lighting Upgrades
The 2026 Tata Tiago boasts a thoroughly refreshed front fascia. The automaker has replaced the older chrome elements with a sleek gloss-black panel carrying the Tata logo, flanked by full-LED headlamps and a redesigned sportier bumper.

The side profile retains its familiar silhouette but gains new 15-inch alloy wheels, black outside rearview mirrors and chrome door handles. At the rear, the hatchback now features slim LED tail lamps connected by a modern light-bar-inspired design and a redesigned tailgate.
Inside the 2026 Tata Tiago Cabin
Significant upgrades continue inside the cabin, where the 2026 Tata Tiago receives a completely new digital layout. The dashboard is now dominated by a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Comfort and safety features have seen a major bump. The hatchback now comes equipped with a 360-degree parking camera, a blind-spot monitor, rear air-conditioning vents and a 65-watt USB Type-C fast charging port. Tata has also introduced new upholstery and connected car technology to make the cabin feel more upmarket.

Engine Performance and CNG AMT
Under the hood, the standard petrol variant is powered by a familiar 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine that produces 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The engine offers strong low-speed drivability for city commutes.
However, the major highlight is the Tiago iCNG version, which produces 75 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. This variant introduces a segment-first automated manual transmission (AMT) equipped with steering-mounted paddle shifters and a rotary gear selector dial. The paddle shifters offer drivers better control during overtakes and downhill sections, while a creep function makes heavy traffic more manageable. The twin-cylinder CNG technology is tucked under the boot floor, ensuring around 110 litres of usable luggage capacity.
Rivals and Market Placement
While the engine remains slightly noisy at higher revs, the rich feature list and practical twin-cylinder CNG setup make the hatchback a strong contender. The 2026 Tata Tiago will compete directly against the Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
With its unique combination of an AMT gearbox, paddle shifters, and factory-fitted CNG, the Tiago offers a distinct advantage over its traditional petrol-only rivals in the entry-level segment.
