Price rise: CM meets Governor; Sufal Bangla to sell veggies, fruits, cooking oil at subsidised rate
EB asked to keep track on markets to stop hoarding.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday called on Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, Reportedly, one of the most important topics of discussion was the price rise of essential commodities.
Earlier in the day, Banerjee asked the administration to sell essential food items including vegetables, fruits, cooking oil, potatoes, onions etc. from the state government’s Sufan Bangla outlets. There are 332 such outlets across the state.
Banerjee was taking stock of the price rise situation in the state and asked officials to ensure that the poor get these essential commodities at subsidised rates. She also asked the task force, Enforcement Branch (EB) to conduct raids to keep check on the spiralling prices of essential commodities and stop hoarding. She was critical of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, saying that the Centre should have sent officers to keep prices under check instead of deploying the CBI and ED after Opposition leaders.
The CM today met officers of the task force, EB and market committees to discuss the matter in detail. She expressed anguish at the rise in the price of fruits during Ramzan.
