Somen Mitra’s son Rohan may quit Cong & join Trinamool: tweets indicate

Speculations are rife that Rohan Mitra, son of former West Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra, may soon quit the Congress and join the Trinamool Congress. A series of tweets by Rohan Mitra over the past few days also indicate this, say insiders.

He has been expressing disgruntlement over various moves by his party, the Congress, and expressed his faith in the Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee to his close aides. Recently, Congress leader of North 24 Parganas, Kaji Abdur Rahim has joined the Trinamool Congress from the Congress. Rohan Mitra tweeted saying this has been a huge loss for the party.

Recently, Trinamool Congress leader from Singur, Becharam Manna, has been in the news for his reported will to “resign” as MLA. In a tweet, Rohan Mitra criticised this and said that moves like this meant disloyalty the party, in view of the fact that “non-entities” were given power and adulation by great leaders like Mamata Banerjee and Somen Mitra.

In another tweet, Mitra questioned how – despite being a voter from South Kolkata Lok Sabha constituency, Ballygunge Assembly seat and ward 69 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and despite being a general secretary of the state Congress, he was not invited to the district workers’ meet. He questioned who was giving instructions on these things. In yet another tweet, he has said that some people had entered the Congress from BJP and were now fulfilling their own vested interests. He said the party was losing credibility before the people of the state for this.

While all this has embarrassed the Congress, insiders say that the die is cast, and Mitra’s move to the Trinamool Congress may be just a matter of time.
