All polling booths can’t be sensitive, says EC’s central police observer for West Bengal

The Election Commission’s central police observer Vivek Dubey has said that all booths in West Bengal cannot be stamped “sensitive”. He said there were categories based on certain yardsticks before booths were placed under “general” category, as “sensitive” and “super sensitive”. But all booths in the state cannot be placed under the “sensitive” category.

However, the EC’s central observer – who came to Kolkata on Sunday – has said that Bengal was prone to certain problems. And therefore, the elections had been scheduled in seven phases. The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the entire state be considered sensitive.

The Lok Sabha polls will start in Bengal with the first phase on April 11 and continue for seven phases till May 19. Counting will be held on May 23.

After meeting representatives of political parties and senior officers in Kolkata for two days, Dubey left for Siliguri to supervise the election process and deployment of police and central paramilitary forces in north Bengal, that goes to the polls earlier than south Bengal.
