Trinamool allegation to EC: BJP’s Suvendu is assembling outsiders in Nandigram
Nandigram goes to polls on April 1.
The Trinamool Congress on Monday moved the Election Commission (EC) in New Delhi to allege that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari, has been assembling “outsiders” in some houses in the area.
Trinamool’s Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien wrote a letter to the EC and submitted details of four houses, detailing their location, how many people are staying in each and what had led to the suspicion. According to some reports, the owners of the houses have said that there is no question of bringing in outsiders.
Elections in Nandigram is scheduled on April 1, where Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and her one time close aide Suvendu Adhikary are contesting against each other in this do-or-die clash. Adhikary is the BJP candidate from Nandigram.
According to the allegation made by the Trinamool Congress MP before the Election Commission, goons have taken shelter into these houses, and they have been staying there for the past few weeks, and even months in some cases.
One of the houses mentioned belongs to Kalipada Shi near Reyapara hospital. According to Trinamool’s allegation, there are about 40 persons living in this two-storied house, and have been brought in from Kolaghat, Contai, Pingla areas, and they are moving around in a car and 12 two-wheelers.
The second is the house of one Meghnad Pal – a three-storied house off Chandipur-Nandigram Road, that has been suspiciously covered from outside. This house has about 50 persons, including Suvendu Adhikari’s election agent. The third house is in Tengua-2 panchayat area in Teropakhira village, where about 30 persons from Balarampur, Jharucharan, Jyotirmal areas have taken shelter. The fourth house is that of Bhajahari Samanta in Bayal area where 30 outsiders have taken shelter.
The complaint also mentions that though local police have been informed about it, no action has yet been taken. The EC has been asked to take immediate action.
