The Trinamool Congress today worked out the details of forming its “Jai Hind” groups all over West Bengal to counter the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, at a meeting in her Kalighat party office assigned the job to Bratya Basu and Indranil Sen to look at the formation of these groups and how they would function. Yesterday, Banerjee had visited Barrackpore area and announced that such groups will be formed to counter the RSS in Bengal. According to Banerjee, there will be one group in every block of the state.
“We don’t have the money that they have, but the dedication of our workers will be the strength,” she said. Additionally, some women’s groups will also be formed throughout the state.
Three Trinamool Congress lawmakers have already left the party and joined the BJP, apart from over 60 councillors from three municipal bodies. Banerjee and other senior leaders are working out strategies to fight the BJP in Bengal and fear more leaders might leave.
Speaking on the formation of Jai Hind groups, BJP state chief Dilip Ghosh said that it would be impossible for any political party to form anything equivalent to the RSS. “The Congress had tried it at some point, but it didn’t succeed. The RSS workers have dedication and selflessness. But political leaders who are corrupt and power hungry, can never have the same dedication,” Ghosh said.
