Trinamool Congress removes Partha Chatterjee from all party posts
Earlier, he was removed as minister from the Bengal government.
Trinamool Congress today removed Partha Chatterjee from all its party posts, including the post of the general secretary, national vice president, editor of party mouthpiece Jaago Bangla and two other posts. He has been suspended till the investigation continues. If proved innocent, he can be back in the party, Trinamool’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said today.
The party’s disciplinary action team met today at Trinamool Congress party office and took the decision. Senior party leaders including Subrata Bakshi, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas were present apart from Abhishek Banerjee.
Earlier, Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said that Partha Chatterjee was being relieved of all three departments that he was handling.
Abhishek Banerjee said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that had arrested Partha Chatterjee must complete its probe within a short time and disclose how so much of cash was found from the house of his close aide. Over the week, the ED has found cash worth over Rs 50 crore, and gold jewellery from the house of Arpita Mukherjee, Chatterjee’s close aide. Abhishek Banerjee said that the party was giving the benefit of doubt to the people and not the senior leader when it came to taking “action”. “We are answerable to the people and we are taking action on the basis of what has come to the fore till now,” he said.
