Trinamool Congress top leader and state education minister Partha Chatterjee has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the chit fund investigations that are being conducted by the central investigating agency.
Chatterjee is to be asked about the funding and accounts of his party mouthpiece Jaago Bangla and whether it had any connection with the chit fund companies, it has been learnt. Earlier, Trinamool Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien had been called by the CBI in connection with the same probe.
The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are probing the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams in Bengal and some other states where the companies are said to have duped thousands of investors.
Chatterjee has however, denied he had been called by the CBI.
Earlier, Trinamool Congress MP Satabdi Roy had written to the ED authorities mentioning that she would like to return Rs 29 lakh that she had received from Saradha. Another movie star and Trinamool Congress MP Mithun Chakraborty, had returned the money he had received from the chit fund company.
Artist Suvaprasanna has also been interrogated by the ED and the CBI. He was owner of a television channel, which was purchased by the Saradha group though it was running into losses.
Bengali film actors Prasenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, Trinamool leaders Madan Mitra and Satabdi Roy, former Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh, businessman Shibaji Panja, former CPIM leader Lakshman Seth are among those who have been interrogated by the two agencies already. Some may be interrogated again.
The probe agencies have come across inputs after interrogating Rose Valley owner Gautam Kundu in prison and the series of summons have been issued to various people. The same goes for the Saradha probe.
