Trinamool MLA, actor Chiranjeet wants to quit politics, writes to Mamata Banerjee; to join BJP?

Want to devote more time to films, said the actor

Trinamool Congress legislator from Barasat, actor Chiranjeet Chakraborty, has written to party chief Mamata Banerjee telling her that he wants to quit politics. He has requested Banerjee to allow him to step down as he wishes to devote more time to films.

The news has fuelled talks about his possibility of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Several Trinamool leaders – at least 18 of them – have already joined the saffron party ahead of the Assembly elections 2021. However, Chiranjeet himself has said that he wants to devote more time to films. He wants to be back in acting and direction. He also said that due to his age he would like to move away from mainstream politics and let younger people work more.

There was no official reaction from the Trinamool Congress.
