Washerman’s daughter, Nidhi Kannaujia, scores 95 percent in CBSE boards

Nidhi Kannaujia has scored 95 per cent in the CBSE board exams. Many others may have scored the exact same marks, but Nidhi has soared way above all, on other grounds.

Her life can be a lesson for many on how to beat the odds in life in order to be successful. A washerman’s daughter, she lives in a one-roomed-house in an urban slum of Lucknow, it was reported by The Better India.

Nidhi studied at night when all others in the family slept. If there was no electricity, she went and studied under the street light, the report said.

“I have two elder sisters, who were extremely brilliant in studies. Sadly, they were not allowed to complete education and were married off when they were in Class 9. It was disappointing and heart-breaking to see how their marriages turned out. Sometimes it scared me, but as a whole, it pushed me to work harder and do better, so that I am able to avoid it,” she told The Better India.

Nidhi would rather use the term “brilliant” for her sisters, who despite being bright students, were married off early. Their marriage did not go well and it made Nidhi firm in her resolve to study hard in order to avoid getting into the same rut.

Now that she has scored so well, her parents want her to pursue her studies. Nidhi’s father had migrated from a village to Lucknow 20 years ago in search of a job and became a washerman. She was two months old at that time.

Now, Nidhi has a dream – to study History or Political Science honours in a college under Delhi University and finally become an IAS officer.

Given her grit, her dream will is bound to be a reality soon.
