West Bengal BJP leader allegedly abducts daughter, arrested by police

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was arrested by West Bengal police on Monday for his alleged involvement in the abduction of his own 22-year old daughter.

The police have stated that the arrest of the BJP leader is the outcome of ‘prima facie’ evidence. Two other men have also been arrested in connection with the incident. The girl had alleged been abducted by two armed youths last Thursday.

The Bolpur additional superintendent  of police Tanmoy Sarkar spoke to the media confirming that the police had worked on a ‘tip-off’ which took police teams from North Dinajpur and Birbhum to the North Dinajpur railway station to rescue the abducted girl.

She was spotted at the railway station on Sunday and rescued from there by police. Stating that the motive behind the abduction could be ‘political expediency’, the police superintendent added that apart from those arrested, many people associated with the BJP have been ‘found guilty of fanning violence’ in the area.
