West Bengal minister Rabindranath Ghosh receives notice from EC over remarks on Central forces

North Bengal development department minister Rabindranath Ghosh was issued a notice by the Election Commission of India (ECI) over his alleged remarks on the Central forces.

This comes after the office of electoral officials in Kolkata sought a report on the matter from the district magistrate Kaushik Saha on Wednesday.

The ECI has also sought a report on what Trinamool district president Ajit Maiti of West Midnapore allegedly stated on the armed forces. Opposition leaders allege that he had threatened to “twist their arms”.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Asansol Babul Supriyo has replied to the showcause notice served to him by the ECI. Although he has denied having used a song that uses unsavoury comments on chief minister Mamata Banerjee, it is alleged that it is still to be found on his Twitter handle and has apparently been noted by the ECI.

His reply and the report from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer’s reached the Delhi office of ECI and a decision is awaited in the matter.

Birbhum’s Trinamool district president Anubrata Mandal has also replied to the showcause notice he had been served by the ECI.

Meanwhile, Forward Block leader from Chakulia, Ali Imran Ramz has complained to the ECI on the use of the image of chief minister Mamata Banerjee in the chapter on Singur in Class Eight textbooks and in other form of stationeries like diaries and books. Distribution of such materials once the MCC comes into effect should be deemed as a violation of it, noted the Forward Block lawmaker.

A huge number of complaints have been pouring in before the Election Commission since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect.
