West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s Eid message on Wednesday had an important political message – directed at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Hum se jo takrayega woh chur chur ho jayega,” (whoever messes with me will be destroyed) – that’s our slogan,” she said. She also addressed the gathering with a message of unity for all religions.

Banerjee’s speech on Eid is being seen as a political message directed at the BJP that is repeatedly chanting the phrase “Jai Shree Ram” to “greet” her. The Bengal CM has been infuriated by the slogan at least twice and took to Facebook to explain that she had no problem with the slogan, but the BJP was mixing politics and religion. The Trinamool Congress has decided to counter the slogan with “Joy Bangla” and “Jai Hind”.

She also said that sometimes when the sun rises, its rays are very harsh but later it fades away. “Don’t be scared, the faster they captured the EVMs the quicker they will go away,” she said. This is not the first time that Banerjee has spoken about EVMs being rigged. The BJP got 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats and the Trinamool won 22.

State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh, reacting to Banerjee’s statement today, said that instead of talking about destruction of the Opposition parties, the Bengal CM should note that her own party, the Trinamool Congress is getting destroyed (playing on the phrase, chur chur ho jayega).
