Why have they joined BJP? Mamata Banerjee explains why some party leaders left Trinamool
She called BJP the "Bharatiya Junk Party" for accumulating junk
Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday explained at a public meeting in Nadia’s Ranaghat why some of her party colleagues have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Many have made a lot of money, but why are they still going to the BJP?” Banerjee asked and added, “I’ll tell you why. They are being threatened: ‘if you want to keep your money, join the BJP’, ‘if you want to make money, join the BJP”. She said that cases were being prepared by Central investigating agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to make these leaders join the BJP. “They know they won’t win those cases, but they are still preparing documents to slap charges and to fight cases in courts. You will see the outcome and then you will know,” Banerjee said at the public meeting.
Senior leaders in the Trinamool, such as Subhendu Adhikary, have recently joined the BJP. There is a buzz that more leaders from the party may likely join the saffron party ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections in Bengal.
Banerjee also said that all the junk was now accumulating in the BJP and she called the party “Bharatiya Junk Party”. “It is a miracle what kind of a washing machine they have or washing powder they use that people in our party are dirty and when they join the BJP they all become clean,” she said, laughing.
Speaking at Ranaghat, where the citizenship issue is significant especially among 40 per cent voters who are Matuas, Banerjee said: “Who can take away your citizenship? You are already citizens.” Banerjee said that the CAA was misleading and could lead to more people losing citizenship, the way some 12 lakh people in Assam had found their names not included.
She said that “outsiders” were invading Bengal ahead of the elections, and claiming that nothing has happened in Bengal and they would create “Sonar Bangla”. “I say that Sonar Bangla exists, it is already there,” she said.
