“Will go to other states as a platform of choice, not to win a few seats”: Trinamool’s new national general secretary announces expansion plans
Banerjee says he will be ready with expansion plans within a month.
Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Congress’ new national general secretary, on Monday said at a press conference in Kolkata that the party will expand its units to other states “not to win a few seats” but to win the state. Banerjee – a Lok Sabha MP of the Trinamool Congress – who was chosen by the party as the new all India general secretary two days back, said that he will be ready with a concrete plan within a month and announce which states the party will want its units in.
“This attempt of ours will be very different from what it has been in the past,” he said, adding that the party – after its stunning win in West Bengal 2021 Assembly polls – wants to be a platform of choice for the people wherever they open their units in the coming days. He said that after the Trinamool’s win, the party has received approximately a lakh e-mails from people across the country congratulating Mamata Banerjee for the win.
“It is not about defeating BJP, but about saving India, and that’s what people have written to Trinamool Congress about,” Abhishek Banerjee said. He however, did not mention any state, but added that it could be any part of the country – north or south or Northeast India. Asked if it may include Gujarat, Banerjee said that till the time he comes up with a concrete plan, he would like to keep the speculation alive.
